30 Aug, 2022

If you are getting bored of your games, get some new board games. They can be a perfect way for bringing people together and enjoying some well earned downtime with the family. Are they good for your brain though? They most certainly are. Research shows a number of benefits that come with playing board games. We’ve listed some of the best reasons to play them regularly.

Board Games can increase happiness

If you’ve ever lost a game of Monopoly, you might initially disagree with this statement. Board games, however, can improve your overall moods come win or lose. After all, It’s the taking part that counts. Friendly competition with family and mates always results in some laughs and an enjoyable time. That’s why we often revisit the same board games time after time. There’s something nostalgic and joyous about physically connected to a game and being tactile in rolling the dice or moving pieces around the board.

Improves memory

Board games in NZ are a fun little workout for the brain. You often have to plan ahead and remember what’s come before in order to be successful. This can improve brain function and memory in a way that isn’t a chore. Having fun whilst learning is the ultimate reward, especially for younger children who are still in their developmental years.

Reduce stress

Sure, when it comes down to the crooks of the game things may get a little exciting when you are chasing a win, but this is different to stress. Board games are a way to disconnect from the worries of everyday life. Becoming consumed by a game means there is no room to think about work or anything else that’s going on. So, unplug from the real world and enjoy time in the world of your game.

Good for creativity

Many of today’s games require your imagination to play. Get your creative streak working to benefit you in the game. Using creativity is beneficial for a number of reasons and improving it can help make you more confident in other areas of your life as you learn to think outside the box.

How often should you play?

Some families have old traditions of playing their favourite board game on Christmas Day or just on birthdays but board games in NZ can be played as often as you want. Once per month, once per week… even once per day if you wish! It’s a nice idea to have a game night on the same day each week to set aside time for your family to all come together and enjoy quality time with no distractions.
