Wooden toy car garage: how to make one

29 Aug, 2022

Toy cars have long been responsible for our love of motor vehicles. That all starts when we get our first model car which starts the engine on a love affair that can last decades. There are the wickedly popular brands of Matchbox and Hot Wheels that produce no limit of die-cast car replicas, much loved all over the world. The latter even comes with these hot designed, handy storage cases, with 18 compartments for as many cars and a handle for easy transportation.

For younger children, or just for a more classical toy car experience, you can opt from a whole range of wooden options at Toyco. Wooden cars aren’t just stylish, they are long-lasting, great to play with, durable and research has shown that playing with wooden toys can be more beneficial than metal or plastic toys. It’s an introduction to real-world environmental materials.

Start your kids’ collection with a world tour from Le Toy Van’s New York Wooden Vehicles Set to their Little London Vehicle Set and the speedy Monte Carlo sports cars set which also comes with 2 street cones. If they aren’t big enough to grab the attention of young imaginations, go for the large and luxurious London Bus to fit all your passengers.

Of course, you’ll need somewhere to park these epic wooden cars at night and if you are a dab hand at DIY, you may want to make a wooden toy car garage at home.

Top Tips:

  1. Type of wood: Plywood is great for building a purpose made wooden garage. It looks good and is cost-effective for crafts. It is also unfinished wood making it simple to paint and design into a garage aesthetic.
  2. Layers: Without different levels to your parking garage, it is essentially a box. You need to create multiple levels with ramps for cars to drive up and down.
  3. Branding: Adding the finishing touches is what makes or breaks DIY projects. The way to complete a garage is by adding a brand. If it is a parking garage, it could be called something like ‘Petrol Pete’s Parking’. If it’s a mechanical garage it could be called something like ‘Oily Joe’s Garage’. We’ll leave the creativity up to you.
